Media Headquarters Bolsters Team With Promotion, CFO Hire as Slate Expands


TORONTO, July 7, 2021 – Toronto-based, Emmy-nominated production company Media Headquarters (MHQ) is happy to announce several changes to its team. Melanie Brobyn has been promoted to Executive Producer and Vice President while industry veteran Dave Shippel joins the team as Chief Financial Officer. Rounding out the team’s expansion is Drew Carnwath, who joins as Development Producer.

Media Headquarters’ expanding team brings together highly successful executives with track records of leadership and creative accomplishment.  

  • Melanie Brobyn (Executive Producer and Vice President) boasts over two decades of experience in the television and digital media landscape, working at Media Headquarters for over 13 years as Vice President, Production and Business Affairs. In her new position of Executive Producer, Melanie will oversee all aspects of the company’s slate of productions from inception to completion and act as the liaison between the company’s development, production, financial, legal and communications teams.
  • Dave Shippel (Chief Financial Officer) has worked in the film and television industry for over 25 years, holding senior financial leadership roles at some of the largest entertainment companies in Canada including Nelvana Limited, Epitome Pictures Inc. and DHX Media Ltd. In his role of Chief Financial Officer at Media Headquarters, he will oversee all financial activities and apply his wealth of experience to support the company’s growth.  
  • Drew Carnwath (Development Producer) brings over 15 years of experience in unscripted television to his new position as Development Producer at Media Headquarters. The Toronto-based producer and writer has worked on multiple award-winning unscripted television series for both independent production companies and in-house at CBC and Bell Media.

For their continued leadership in content creation in the non-fiction and unscripted realm, Media Headquarters was recently recognized in Realscreen’s Global 100 list for the eighth consecutive year. Currently, the company is wrapping production on the second season of Salvage Kings on History and expanding the company’s internationally-successful Smartest Person format, which has been sold in 15 territories to date. Media Headquarters will be making several more announcements in the coming months about upcoming projects.
